What is Hedy?

Hedy is an AI-powered conversation coach that provides real-time transcription, proactive suggestions, and personalized insights for your meetings, lectures, and conversations. Unlike passive transcription tools, Hedy actively analyzes your conversations and delivers coaching at the moment it matters most, helping you ask better questions, spot opportunities others miss, and contribute more effectively.

What inspired the creation of Hedy?

Hedy was born from a desire to help people communicate more effectively and confidently. Recognizing that many struggle with active listening, articulating thoughts, and navigating complex conversations, we created an AI-powered tool to provide real-time support and guidance, empowering individuals to become better communicators and leaders.

How did Hedy get its name?

Hedy is named after Hedy Lamarr, the iconic Hollywood actress and inventor. Lamarr co-invented a frequency-hopping spread spectrum technology that laid the foundation for modern wireless communication. We chose this name to honor Lamarr's legacy and reflect our commitment to innovation, intelligence, and empowerment.

How does Hedy work?

Hedy listens to your conversations through your device's microphone, transcribes the content in real-time using on-device speech recognition, and sends the transcript to AI models for analysis. Based on that analysis, Hedy provides personalized insights and proactive coaching suggestions to help you excel in your interactions. Your audio never leaves your device.

On desktop (macOS and Windows), Hedy can also listen directly to system audio from virtual meetings, so you don't need to position a separate device near your speakers.

What are Automatic Suggestions?

Automatic Suggestions is Hedy's signature feature. During your conversations, Hedy continuously analyzes the discussion and proactively delivers coaching insights, strategic questions to ask, and observations you might have missed. You don't need to ask for help. Hedy knows when to step in.

Every suggestion goes through AI quality checks to ensure relevance. You can control the frequency (frequent, balanced, or selective) and choose to receive suggestions in chat, as notifications, or both. Automatic Suggestions are available for the first 30 minutes per session on Free, and up to 120 minutes on Pro.

What are Topics?

Topics let you group related sessions together by client, project, course, or any category that matters to you. When sessions are organized into a topic, you can chat across all of them at once, and Hedy will reference past sessions during live conversations when a topic is assigned.

Each topic also generates insights including next agenda items, progress summaries, outstanding action items, and key patterns across your meetings. Topics is a Pro feature.

Does Hedy work with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet?

Yes. On macOS and Windows, Hedy captures system audio directly, so it works with any virtual meeting platform including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex, and others. No plugins or browser extensions needed. Just start a Hedy session and join your meeting as usual.

On mobile, Hedy uses the device microphone to capture audio from your environment. For virtual meetings on mobile, you can either use your meeting on speaker and place your phone nearby, or use a separate mobile device running Hedy next to the speakers of the device hosting the meeting. The desktop app is the recommended experience for virtual meetings since it captures audio directly from the system.

Can Hedy listen to conversations happening on the same device it's running on?

On our mobile apps, Hedy can only listen to external conversations, not those occurring on the same device where the app is running. On our native macOS and Windows desktop apps, Hedy can hear any conversations on the device, including virtual meetings.

Here's what you need to know about the mobile apps:

  1. External Conversations: Hedy uses your device's microphone to capture conversations happening in your physical environment or played through external speakers on another device.
  2. Device Limitations: Due to technical constraints, Hedy cannot directly access audio from other apps on the same mobile device (like phone calls, video conferences, or media playback).
  3. Virtual Meetings: If you're using headphones, Hedy won't be able to hear the full conversation. If you're using speakers, place your device running Hedy near the speakers of the device hosting the virtual meeting. Alternatively, use the macOS or Windows app to capture system audio directly.
  4. Best Practices: For in-person meetings, place the device running Hedy on the table or nearby. For virtual meetings, use the desktop app for system audio capture, or place a separate mobile device near the speakers of the device you're using for the meeting.
What is Cloud Sync?

Cloud Sync allows you to access your Hedy session history and data across multiple devices. It synchronizes your sessions, transcripts, summaries, highlights, topics, and to-do items, making them available on mobile, desktop, and the web app at web.hedy.ai.

You can enable Cloud Sync in your app settings. Audio recordings remain on the device where they were captured to manage storage efficiently. Everything else syncs across all your devices.

If you chose the EU data region during account setup, your cloud-synced data is stored on servers in Europe.

Can I use Hedy offline?

Yes, you can capture conversations without an internet connection. Since speech recognition runs on your device, transcription works offline. However, Hedy does require an internet connection for AI features like suggestions, summaries, and chat, as these rely on cloud-based AI models. When you reconnect, your session data will sync normally.

Can I integrate Hedy with other tools?

Yes. Hedy integrates with several automation and workflow platforms:

  • Webhooks: Trigger actions in n8n, Slack, or custom systems when sessions complete or highlights are created
  • REST API: Programmatic access to sessions, transcripts, highlights, and to-do items

Why is the transcription slow on my device?

Transcription speed can vary depending on your device's processing power. Hedy uses on-device speech recognition to ensure your privacy, which can be resource-intensive. Transcripts update at most every 5 seconds, and additional updates may occur up to every 30 seconds to revise transcripts.

Regardless of the update frequency, Hedy continues to listen and analyze your entire conversation. The difference is only in how often you see the transcript refresh on your screen. If you're on an older device, try enabling the small speech recognition model in your settings.

Where can I find my API key?

You can find your API key in Account Settings in the Hedy app. You will need to create a new API key to get access to it, so be sure to store your key somewhere safe. API access is a Pro feature.

What subscription plans does Hedy offer?

Hedy offers three plans:

  • Free ($0/month): Up to 5 hours per month, real-time AI insights, transcription in 30+ languages, summaries and meeting notes, automatic suggestions for the first 30 minutes per session.
  • Pro ($9.99/month or $69.99/year): Unlimited sessions and recording time, 120-minute automatic suggestions, Topics for cross-session intelligence, Highlights, session sharing, data export, integrations (Zapier, API, webhooks, MCP), custom vocabulary, and more.
  • Lifetime ($199 one-time): All Pro features with a single payment. Lifetime access including future updates.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. Hedy has a permanent Free tier that gives you up to 5 hours of session time per month. This includes real-time transcription, AI insights, conversation summaries, and automatic suggestions for the first 30 minutes of each session. No credit card required. Download the app and start using Hedy right away.

Privacy and Security

How does Hedy protect my privacy?

Privacy is central to how Hedy works:

  • On-device speech recognition: Your conversation audio is processed locally on your device. Audio never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it.
  • No training on your data: Your conversations are never used to train AI models. We have strict agreements with all AI providers prohibiting this.
  • Transient AI processing: Conversation data sent for AI analysis is processed in memory and not stored by our AI partners.
  • Encryption: All data in transit uses TLS 1.3. Stored data uses AES-256 encryption.
  • You control your data: You decide what's synced, what's shared, and what's deleted.

Does Hedy offer EU data storage?

Yes. New users choose their data region (EU or US) during account setup. If you select EU, all your conversation data (sessions, transcripts, topics, highlights, chat history) is stored on servers in Europe, and all AI processing is routed through EU-based infrastructure.

Existing users can route AI processing through EU servers by setting their data protection region to EU in Account Settings. The region choice for new users is permanent and cannot be changed after signup.

What compliance certifications does Hedy have?

GDPR: Processor-side alignment complete, including Data Processing Agreements (DPA), Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), Technical and Organizational Measures (TOMs), and Transfer Impact Assessment. Full documentation is available in our Trust Center.

SOC 2 Type II: Currently undergoing certification, expected Q1 2026.

HIPAA: Currently undergoing certification, expected Q1 2026. Business Associate Agreements will be available upon completion.

Is my meeting data used to train AI models?

No. We have strict agreements with all AI providers prohibiting the use of your data for training purposes. Your conversations are processed only to provide immediate insights, then discarded. Should any future experimental features require different data handling, they would be clearly marked as opt-in only with separate consent requirements.

Usage and Accessibility

Can I use Hedy for both professional and personal conversations?

Yes. Hedy is suitable for various conversation types, including business meetings, lectures, interviews, coaching sessions, medical appointments, negotiations, and personal discussions. Select the appropriate session type based on your conversation's nature, and Hedy will tailor its analysis and suggestions accordingly.

How accurate is Hedy's transcription and analysis?

Hedy uses leading AI models and on-device speech recognition to provide highly accurate transcription and analysis. You can further improve accuracy by adding custom vocabulary for industry-specific terms, names, and jargon. However, like any AI system, occasional errors may occur. You can edit transcripts directly in the app and regenerate summaries if needed.

Can I share Hedy insights with others?

Yes. Pro users can share individual sessions or entire topics with others via email invites or shareable links. Recipients can view transcripts, summaries, and insights. You have full control over what you share, and you can manage or revoke access at any time from the sharing settings.

Is my conversation history accessible?

Yes. Your conversation history is accessible on the device where it was recorded. With Cloud Sync enabled, your sessions are also available across all your devices and the web app at web.hedy.ai. You can search across all sessions, organize them with Topics, and export your data in Markdown, CSV, or JSON format.

Technical and Support

What are the system requirements for the Hedy apps?

macOS
The Hedy Mac app requires macOS 14.2 or newer. We recommend Apple chipsets (M1+). While Hedy also runs on Intel chipsets, you will need to use a smaller speech recognition model for performance reasons.

Windows
The Hedy Windows app requires Windows 10 or newer. GPU acceleration is available for faster processing on supported hardware.

iOS
Our iOS app functions on a wide variety of iPhones, but we recommend at least an iPhone 12 or newer. We also recommend iOS 18+. Apple Watch companion app requires watchOS 10+.

Android
Our Android app requires a minimum of Android 12.

Web
The web app at web.hedy.ai works in any modern browser. Session capture currently requires a native app (mobile or desktop), but you can review sessions, chat, manage topics, and access all Pro features from the browser.

How do I provide feedback or report issues?

We value your input! Provide feedback, report issues, or suggest improvements directly through the app's feedback feature or by contacting our support team at support@hedy.bot. You can also vote on features and submit ideas on our Feature Board.

How can I cancel my subscription?

You can manage your subscription through the App Store (iOS), Google Play (Android), or the Paddle customer portal (if you purchased directly from our website).
