Siri Shortcuts
What You Can Do
Hedy integrates with Siri Shortcuts so you can control sessions entirely with your voice. Two actions are available without any setup:
-
Start a session. Begin recording without touching your device.
-
Stop a session. End and save the current session.
These work even when your hands are full or you’re driving. If your device is locked and the shortcut needs to open Hedy, Siri may ask you to unlock first.
Voice Commands
Speak these phrases to Siri to control Hedy directly:
“Hey Siri, start a Hedy session.”
“Hey Siri, stop my Hedy session.”
Siri recognizes natural variations of these phrases. You can also assign your own custom phrases (see below).
Using Siri Shortcuts on iPhone or iPad
Hedy registers its Siri actions automatically. They appear in the Shortcuts app once you’ve installed and opened Hedy at least once.
To trigger them by voice:
-
Activate Siri (say “Hey Siri” or press and hold the side button).
-
Speak one of the voice commands above.
To find Hedy actions in the Shortcuts app:
-
Open the Shortcuts app.
-
Tap Gallery and search for Hedy.
-
Tap a Hedy action to add it to your library, or tap + to build a custom shortcut that includes a Hedy action.
Using Siri Shortcuts on Mac
Hedy’s shortcuts work the same way on macOS:
-
Open the Shortcuts app from your Applications folder.
-
Look for Hedy under App Shortcuts in the sidebar.
-
Speak to Siri, or click a shortcut to run it.
You can assign a system-wide keyboard shortcut to any Hedy action:
-
Right-click the shortcut in the Shortcuts app and choose Details.
-
Toggle Use as Quick Action.
-
Set a keyboard combination.
This lets you start and stop sessions from any application without picking up your phone or touching the menu bar.
Customizing Your Voice Phrases
If “start a Hedy session” doesn’t fit how you naturally speak, rename the trigger:
-
Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
-
Find the Hedy shortcut you want to customize.
-
Tap or click the (i) icon.
-
Change the shortcut name to whatever phrase you prefer (for example, “start recording,” “begin meeting,” or “go Hedy”).
The new name becomes the Siri trigger phrase.
Building a Meeting Mode Shortcut
Siri Shortcuts can chain actions across apps. Here’s a “Meeting Mode” shortcut that prepares your environment from one phrase:
-
In the Shortcuts app, tap + to create a new shortcut.
-
Add these actions in order:
-
Set Focus to enable Do Not Disturb.
-
Set Volume to silence the ringer.
-
Start Hedy Session with your default session type.
-
-
Name the shortcut “Meeting Mode.”
-
Say “Hey Siri, Meeting Mode.”
One phrase silences your phone and starts recording. You can extend this with calendar lookups, music pausing, HomeKit lighting changes, or anything else the Shortcuts app supports.
Using Siri from CarPlay
Siri Shortcuts work in CarPlay, which is the simplest way to start a session while driving:
-
Make sure your iPhone is connected to CarPlay.
-
Press the voice command button on the steering wheel, or say “Hey Siri” if your vehicle supports it.
-
Speak the voice command. Hedy starts on your phone and runs in the background while you drive.
This is useful for capturing brainstorming notes on a long drive, prep notes between client visits, or talking through an idea on the drive home from a meeting.
Using Siri from Apple Watch
Apple Watch can trigger Hedy’s iPhone shortcuts:
-
Raise your wrist and say “Hey Siri,” or press and hold the Digital Crown.
-
Speak the voice command.
-
Your iPhone runs the shortcut and starts the Hedy session.
Your iPhone needs to be paired and within Bluetooth or Wi-Fi range. Once a session is running, you can control it directly with the Hedy Apple Watch app.
Privacy
Siri triggers Hedy. It does not transcribe what’s said in your meeting. Your conversation audio is processed by Hedy according to your privacy settings, including Local AI Processing if you’ve enabled it. Voice activation requests routed through Siri are handled per Apple’s privacy policy.
For details on how Hedy handles your meeting data, see the Data Privacy Overview.
Troubleshooting
Hedy actions don’t appear in the Shortcuts app
-
Make sure you have the latest version of Hedy installed.
-
Open Hedy at least once after updating so iOS or macOS can register the shortcuts.
-
Restart your device. iOS sometimes needs a relaunch to index new App Shortcuts.
-
On iPhone, check that Settings → Hedy → Siri & Search is enabled.
Siri doesn’t recognize the voice command
-
Speak slowly and clearly: “start a Hedy session.”
-
Make sure Siri is set to a language that matches how you say “Hedy.”
-
Try renaming the shortcut to something more distinctive (see Customizing Your Voice Phrases above).
-
On Apple Watch, confirm “Hey Siri” is enabled in Watch settings.
Siri runs the wrong session type
-
Hedy uses your default session type when starting via Siri. Update the default in Hedy’s settings.
-
Or build a custom shortcut that pre-sets a specific session type before starting.
Shortcut works on iPhone but not on Mac
-
Make sure you’re signed in to the same iCloud account on both devices.
-
Open the Shortcuts app on Mac and check that Hedy actions appear under App Shortcuts. iCloud sync may take a few minutes.
Requirements
-
Hedy installed on iPhone (iOS 16 or later), iPad (iPadOS 16 or later), or Mac (macOS 13 or later).
-
Siri enabled in Settings.
Tip: Once your shortcuts are working, build a Meeting Mode chain (Focus, ringer silence, Hedy start) and assign it to your favorite Siri phrase. One word, and you’re ready for the call.
