Activate a Hedy license you bought on the website
Buying on the website is deliberately separate from creating a Hedy account, so you can pay first and set up your account afterwards. That means there is one short step after checkout that connects the purchase to your account.
Which step depends on what you received. Check your email from the purchase:
- A Redeem purchase button on the page you saw after paying, and the same redemption link in your purchase email, means you bought a plan directly on the website. Follow “Purchases with a redemption link” below.
- A license code, a short string of letters and numbers, means you bought through a discount link or a deal site. Follow “Purchases with a license code” below.
Purchases with a redemption link
The confirmation page you land on after paying has a Redeem purchase button, and the same link is emailed to the address you entered at checkout. Either one does the job, so use whichever is easier to reach.
Install Hedy first if you have not already. The link opens the app directly, so it has nothing to open until Hedy is on the device.
Then tap Redeem purchase on that device, or open the purchase email there and use the link inside it. That is the whole step: Hedy opens, connects the purchase to your account, and Pro is active.
If you paid on a computer and Hedy is only on your phone, open the purchase email on the phone and tap the link there. The link opens the Hedy app rather than a web page, so it needs to be opened on a device that has Hedy installed.
If you have not created your account yet
Open the link anyway. Hedy will show “Your Pro plan is ready” and hold onto the purchase. Create your account or sign in, and Pro unlocks on its own without you going back to the link.
This is the most common order of events, and nothing is lost by paying before you sign up.
If you already have more than one Hedy account, sign in as the one you actually use before opening the link. The purchase attaches to whichever account is signed in at that moment, and moving it afterwards takes a support request.
If the link says it has expired
Redemption links are valid for 60 minutes. Open the expired link again while Hedy is installed and a fresh link is emailed to you automatically. Use the new one.
If the link says the purchase belongs to a different account
The purchase has already been connected to another Hedy account. That is usually a second account you created earlier with a different email or a different sign-in method, such as Google instead of a password. Sign in as that account to check.
If the purchase genuinely landed on the wrong account, see transfer a Hedy license to the right account.
If someone else paid
The redemption link goes to the email address entered at checkout, not to the account holder. When a colleague or a company card paid for your seat, the link is sitting in their inbox. Ask them to forward it, then open it yourself while signed into your own account.
Purchases with a license code
A license code arrives by email after your purchase. You enter it inside Hedy, and it attaches to whichever account is signed in at that moment, so sign in as the right person first.
On Mac, Windows, or the web, open App Settings, go to the Account tab, and select Have a license code? Activate it. Paste your code and confirm.
On iPhone, iPad, or Android, open App Settings and go to the Account tab. Scroll past the plan cards to the box labeled Hedy Pro License, which appears while your account still shows Free. Tap that box three times quickly and the activation dialog opens. Paste your code and confirm.
If activation reports that the license has already been used, the code was redeemed before, most often on another account of yours. Transfer a Hedy license to the right account covers what to do next.
If the app still shows Free
Do not tap Upgrade to Pro to fix this. On an iPhone, iPad, or Android device that starts a fresh purchase through Apple or Google, and you would be paying a second time for the plan you already own.
Work through these instead:
- Quit Hedy completely and open it again. Hedy checks your plan when it starts, so a window that was already open before you activated can show stale information. If you saw a message saying “Almost there”, this is exactly what it was asking for, and Hedy finishes the job on the next launch.
- Check which account you are signed into. Open App Settings and look at the Account tab. Purchases attach to one account, and it is easy to end up with two if you signed in with Google once and with an email and password another time.
- Confirm the plan on the same screen. When Pro is active, the Account tab shows it as your current plan, and a lifetime purchase shows as your current plan with no renewal date.
If all three look right and Pro still has not appeared, write to us at support@hedy.bot with the invoice number from your receipt and the email address on your Hedy account. We can attach the purchase from our side.
Buying a license for someone else
A purchase attaches to whoever redeems it, not to whoever paid. When you are buying for a colleague, send them the redemption link or the license code and let them open it while signed into their own account. If you redeem it yourself first, it lands on your account and has to be transferred afterwards.
Skip this step next time on a computer
If you already have a Hedy account and you are on a Mac, Windows, or the web, upgrading from inside the app avoids the redemption step entirely. Open App Settings, go to the Account tab, and select Upgrade to Pro. Checkout runs in your browser as it does on the website, and the purchase is connected to your account the moment you pay, with no link to open and no code to enter.
On an iPhone, iPad, or Android device, Upgrade to Pro is a different thing: it buys through Apple or Google rather than through the website, and it is billed and cancelled there. Use it only when you want to start a new plan on that device, never to activate one you already paid for on the website.
